Founded in 2014, CHNS exists to produce careful, public-interest research at the boundaries of disciplines that too often work apart.
CHNS was established as an independent, non-profit centre committed to rigorous fieldwork, open data, and long-term collaboration with the communities we study alongside.
Our methods range from remote sensing and longitudinal cohorts to participatory mapping and oral history. We publish openly and design our tools to be reused by researchers, civil society and policy makers.
We are funded by a mix of public research grants, philanthropic foundations and institutional partnerships. Our governance and finances are reviewed annually and made public.
